Welcome to Shelby Ohio

LETTER FROM THE MAYOR

Welcome to the City of Shelby Official Website, a Web Site that will help you find answers to frequently asked questions about City services.

The official Mission Statement of the City of Shelby is:
“To promote the health, safety, morals, and general welfare
of the entire community and to improve quality of life,
the City of Shelby, Ohio will provide high quality,
cost- effective governmental services”.

If you live or work in our fine City, then you already know we are staffed by hard working and courteous individuals who work diligently to provide you with the highest level of service at all times. Many of our employees have been with us for a long time, and even if you don't know them by name, you may recognize them as your friend or neighbor.

The City of Shelby is located in Richland County and has been designated a “Tree City USA” city for over twenty five years.  Shelby is one of the few cities in Ohio which still operate its own power plant.

If you're new to our City and visiting this site to locate one of our buildings or to answer a question about a city service like leaf pick up or where to pay your utility bill, then I hope you have no difficulty obtaining the information you seek. Should you need further assistance, I encourage you to contact us at the listed phone numbers and addresses. We'll be happy to help any way we can.

As Mayor and a long-time resident of Shelby, I believe our City has a lot to offer its citizens. We have first-rate schools where parents and teachers are involved in student progress. We have a City Park complex that includes an L-shaped 230,000 gallon swimming pool with a 108 foot slide, several picnic pavilions for use, and an 8400 square foot wooden play area. And of course, we offer an abundance of quality housing, both old and new.

Again, we hope visiting this website will provide you with the information you need as you learn that Shelby is a “Great place to grow”. Please feel free to contact me or any of our City staff for further assistance. We'll be happy to help.
Sincerely,

James E. Henkel, Mayor
