Shelby City Council 
Functions of the City Council:
The City of Shelby has a Charter form of government. The legislative powers of the City, except as limited by its Charter, are vested in a Council of five members who are elected every two years. A councilmember is elected from each of the four wards and one councilmember elected at large. The Mayor serves as the President of Council and the Councilmember at Large serves as Vice-President. The Director of Finance and Public Record serves as the Clerk of Council.

Confirm mayoral appointments to board and commissions

Determine the salaries, bonds, and other compensation of officers and employees

Authorize contracts for public works projects and major purchases

Appropriate the expenditures of public moneys
